SLFA Northern Zone Leadership Workshop

On 22nd November 2014, the SLFA hosted its fourth and final leadership workshop for the Northern Football Zone.  This workshop was attended by Valley Soccer’s administration and members in the form of Ms. Lisbeth Chevrier and Keith Isaac.

The workshop focused on the need for leaders in the game and the importance of administrative efficiency in the sport for continued development within our island. The issue of leadership was discussed thoroughly by Valley Soccer’s very own Francis ‘Parry’ Daniel. ‘Parry’, as he is affectionately known, listed the key traits of a leader both in sport and in everyday life. A leader listens skillfully, can enthuse and inspire, acts creatively and decisively, is dependable and reliable, educated and aware, and is results driven.  A video presentation was used to illustrate the effects of this type of leadership. Although Mr. Daniel was scheduled to simply give welcoming remarks, his presentation was far more telling than such and all participants of the workshop were inspired and set into motion for the rest of the day’s proceedings.

The day’s activities continued with an informative presentation by the president of the Saint Lucia Football Association, Mr. Lyndon Cooper. The presentation focused on the administrative aspects of the sport and the role of key associations from FIFA all the way down to the SLFA. All participants now have a greater appreciation for the rules of the sports and the need for proper organization. It was also pleasing to note that our prestigious Valley Soccer has complied with all administrative necessities to the tee and we are to be commended.

The rest of the day’s proceedings highlighted the role of the coach as a footballing educator as well as player needs. This session was done by Mr. Ces Podd, Technical Director of the SLFA and Mr. Cassim Louis. This was followed by the role of the referee and referring fundamentals before the closure. The entire proceedings provided all participants with a holistic understanding of football from on the pitch issues to administrative disciplines. Valley Soccer was both grateful and privileged to be part of proceedings and looks forward to participation in SLFA activities both on and off the field and all endeavors which may allow for the physical, mental and sporting development of all players and staff.
